Turn Dresser Into Bathroom Vanity

Transforming an old dresser into a functional and stylish bathroom vanity is a creative and budget-friendly project. This unique approach not only adds character to your bathroom but also provides valuable storage space.

Before embarking on this project, assess the condition of the dresser. Ensure it is structurally sound and not exhibiting significant damage or instability. The ideal dresser for conversion should have drawers that run smoothly and ample space for storing bathroom essentials.

Next, prepare the dresser by cleaning it thoroughly with a mild detergent and removing any hardware such as knobs or handles. Lightly sand the surface to smooth out any imperfections and create a good surface for paint adhesion.

To achieve a professional-looking finish, prime the dresser with a high-quality primer before applying two coats of paint. Choose a paint that is resistant to moisture and humidity, such as a semi-gloss or satin finish. Allow ample drying time between coats.

Install a sink on top of the dresser. Determine the desired position of the sink and cut a hole in the dresser top using a jigsaw or hole saw. Ensure the opening is slightly smaller than the sink size to allow for a tight fit.

Apply a generous bead of silicone sealant around the perimeter of the sink opening and carefully place the sink into the hole. Press down firmly and wipe away any excess sealant. Allow the sealant to cure according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Connect the sink to the plumbing system by following the manufacturer's installation guide. This typically involves attaching the drain pipe to the sink and connecting the water supply lines to the faucet.

To complete the vanity, install a countertop over the sink. This could be a pre-cut countertop or a custom-cut piece of wood or stone. Secure the countertop using screws or a construction adhesive.

Add a mirror to the wall above the vanity to create a cohesive and functional space. Choose a mirror size and style that complements the dresser and bathroom decor.

For added convenience and organization, consider installing additional shelves or drawers to the vanity. This can be achieved by attaching shelves to the sides of the dresser or adding additional drawers to the existing dresser structure.

By following these steps, you can transform an ordinary dresser into a unique and practical bathroom vanity. This DIY project not only saves money but also adds a touch of personalization and style to your bathroom.
