Plumbing a Double Sink Vanity

Installing a double sink vanity is a relatively straightforward plumbing project that can be completed in a few hours. By following these step-by-step instructions, you can ensure that your vanity is properly plumbed and ready to use.

Materials You'll Need:

  • Double sink vanity
  • Two basin wrenches
  • Two supply lines
  • Two pop-up drain assemblies
  • Two garbage disposals (optional)
  • Plumber's putty or silicone sealant
  • Slip-joint pliers
  • Adjustable wrench
  • Level

Step 1: Install the Vanity

Begin by placing the vanity in its desired location. Use a level to ensure that the vanity is level both front to back and side to side. Once the vanity is level, secure it to the wall using the provided mounting brackets.

Step 2: Connect the Supply Lines

Turn off the water supply to the sink. Connect the supply lines to the shut-off valves under the sink. Use two basin wrenches to tighten the connections.

Step 3: Install the Pop-Up Drain Assemblies

Apply a bead of plumber's putty or silicone sealant around the base of the pop-up drain assembly. Insert the assembly into the drain hole and tighten the nut by hand. Use an adjustable wrench to fully tighten the nut.

Step 4: Install the Garbage Disposals (Optional)

If you are installing garbage disposals, connect them to the drain assemblies according to the manufacturer's instructions. Use slip-joint pliers to tighten the connections.

Step 5: Test the Vanity

Turn on the water supply and check for leaks at all connections. If you find any leaks, tighten the connections until the leaks stop. Once the vanity is leak-free, you can use it as desired.

Additional Tips:

  • If you are not comfortable working with plumbing, it is best to hire a licensed plumber to install your double sink vanity.
  • Make sure to follow all manufacturer's instructions carefully.
  • Use a flashlight to inspect for leaks in hard-to-see areas.
  • If you need to cut the supply lines, use a sharp utility knife and make sure to cut the lines squarely.
  • When tightening connections, do not overtighten, as this can damage the connections.
